Morrisons "Lets Grow" initiative
On Thursday 22nd October, AH Worth Farms & QV Foods Ltd, played host to a group of local Weston Hills primary school children on behalf of Morrisons “Lets Grow” initiative.
As a LEAF accredited farm, the children were able to experience at first-hand all the work & effort involved in growing the potatoes. The day consisted of a tractor ride out onto the farm to look at a potato harvester in action. This was followed by the opportunity to dig some potatoes by hand, the children were then encouraged to work out some harvest yields & rates. After plenty of fresh air, a ride back to the farm yard, through some of the established wild life areas on the farm, gave the children the opportunity to see at first hand the work put in to ensure that modern farming & supporting the local environment & wild life can work hand in hand. To end the day, having seen potatoes being harvested things were rounded off with a visit to AH Worth’s Potato grader, to see the crop being graded & boxed, before being placed into long-term cold store. The children were then each rewarded for their hard work with 2kgs of Lincolnshire finest Maris Piper potatoes.
